Portland warms back into the 80s Thursday. Hot weather expected on the weekend

As the Pacific Northwest sees a stronger upper level ridge building across the region, Portland will get a sunny Thursday with highs near 82 degrees.

The National Weather Service says inland highs will warm into the upper 70s to low 80s by the afternoon, while coastal areas stay cooler. Highs along the coast will stay in the mid 60s to near 70.

Portland starts Thursday with some clouds, but they should gradually clear. Winds will be calm.

Friday will bring a slight rise in high temps under mostly sunny skies. Expect a high of about 85 degrees.

The weather service notes that there is a moderate risk of high heat over the weekend and those who are sensitive or have heat-related health issues should take precautions.

Saturday will be sunny and hot with a high near 90 degrees. Winds may be gusty in the afternoon to about 20 mph which could bring some relief from the heat.

Sunday will be the hottest day of the weekend with the Portland/Vancouver area seeing a 70-90% chance of exceeding 90 degrees, and a 50-80% chance of getting hotter than 95. There’s even a slight chance of seeing 100 degrees.

Overnight temps may only cool to the low 60s, which doesn’t help much to moderate the heat risk.

Extended forecasts show Monday and Tuesday bringing a gradual transition to a more zonal flow pattern. This should moderate the temps a bit, but inland areas will still be well above normal. Monday will likely see temps in the upper 80s or low 90s, Tuesday should drop to the low 80s.
