A key member of the
prolific Portland burglary ring
linked to more than
100 break-ins across
the metro area has been sentenced to nine years in prison.
Courtney Carlile pleaded guilty Monday to
burglarizing 13 businesses
in 2024, including Bistro 23, Momiji, Flipside Bar & Carts, Old Town Brewing, Assembly Brewing, Black Bear Diner and Grassa, as well as the DV8 strip club and an Electric Lettuce marijuana retailer.
In court, Shelley Garrett of Artichoke Community Music, another target, said the theft of $8,000 in audio equipment was a “devastating” loss for the Southeast Powell Boulevard nonprofit.
Prosecutor Alex Garcia said the burglary ring had at least 10 members, who wore masks and carried portable electric saws during the planned hits of in-store safes. In March,
ringleader Joshua Lucero
was also sentenced to nine years in prison, and member Daniel Blew got 1½ years.
“Ms. Carlile’s actions have had a significant impact on our community,” Garcia said in court. “Our streets are lined with vacant spaces because people are not willing to risk opening.”
Carlile, 28, still has open ID theft cases in Washington and Clackamas counties, as well as five previous second-degree theft convictions dating back to 2008. She declined to speak during the hearing.
Noting the presence of her family in the courtroom gallery, Multnomah County Circuit Judge Christopher Marshall said Carlile had a better chance to turn her life around than many people sentenced for property crimes.
“You do have people who are here to support you, and that is unusual, unfortunately,” he said.
Shane M. McKeever, 23, pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter during a hearing Mon., June 9, 2025.

Sherwood road rage shooter gets 30 days in Washington County Jail
A Ford F150 motorist who said he wanted to “scare” the driver of a Prius when he fired six times during a bout of road rage on June 2, 2023 has been sentenced.
Desmond Pitts, 29, of Tempe, Arizona, pleaded guilty to second-degree attempted assault for the shooting as part of a plea deal approved by Washington County Circuit Judge Andrew Ervin.
Prosecutor Jeffrey MacLean said the operator of the Prius, Stephen Vaeth, had just emerged from a driveway on Southwest Murdoch Road when he “cut off” Pitts, who became enraged and started following Vaeth, even as he made several U-turns.
Pitts ultimately drove onto the sidewalk and fired six shots, two of which struck the Prius, as Vaeth made another turn-around.
Defense attorney Jason Short countered that Vaeth was driving toward Pitts in a “very fast, aggressive manner” when Pitts opened fire. Regardless, he will spend the next three years on probation and 30 days in jail.
“I’m just grateful no one was hurt,” Pitts said.
