Rock icon Neil Young has extended a surprising invitation to President Donald Trump to attend his upcoming “Love Earth” summer tour, which
stops at the Gorge Amphitheatre on Sept. 5
.
“When I tour the USA this summer, if there is not martial law by then which would make it impossible, let’s all come together and stand for American values,” Young wrote in a
new post on his Neil Young Archives
. “We will not be doing a political show. We will be playing the music we love for all of us to enjoy together. President Trump, you are invited. Come and hear our music just as you did for decades.”
The invitation is notable given Young’s history of criticism toward Trump. Their relationship soured after Trump used Young’s song “Rockin’ in the Free World” at campaign events without permission, leading Young to file a lawsuit in 2020, which he later dropped.
Rolling Stone noted that Trump
is an admitted fan of Young’s music and even did an interview with the outlet in 2008 about the singer.
The “Love Earth” tour, promoting environmental sustainability, kicks off in Europe on June 18 and is scheduled to reach North America in August.
