School Bus Overturns in Wall Township Crash, Leaving Five Injured, One in Serious Condition

A school bus collided and overturned Thursday morning in Wall Township, injuring five individuals, one badly.

According to state police, the incident occurred shortly before 7:30 a.m. on westbound I-195 near Exit 35B, where I-195 joins Route 138.

A tiny school bus heading east collided with a vehicle transporting pupils to Communications High School.

Images from NewsCopter 7 showed the bus on its side, with a portion of the roof torn off.

“It’s very scary because we don’t know who it is,” explained student Gianna Dentino. “I’m delighted to hear they’re doing well. It was still really scary.”

Five people were sent to an area hospital. According to police, one of the children sustained significant injuries.

The driver and three other children were receiving treatment for minor injuries. The driver of the van was not injured.

The bus was ten minutes from its destination.

The Monmouth County Vocational School District issued a statement stating that all of the victims’ relatives had been contacted about the tragedy.

“It’s a very close-knit community, so it’s scary,” student Tommy Schneider explained. “To find out that someone you’re going to school with is pretty scary.”

According to state police, all eastbound lanes of I-195 were closed for the investigation.

Both vehicles were placed onto tow trucks and transported away.

There has been no update on the one child’s significant injuries.
