It’s Father’s Day weekend and if you’re looking for ways to get dad out of the house and entertained, we’ve got you covered. From a sheep herding competition to train rides to a strawberry shortcake festival, there’s something for nearly every dad in this list.

Inaugural Lady Hill Sheepdog Classic (St. Paul)
Head to the beautiful farming community of St. Paul for the inaugural Lady Hill Sheepdog trial where handers and border collies manage sheep through a course where judges score the gather, drive, shed and pen of a small group of sheep within a certain amount of time. Teams will earn points from the USBCA (U.S. Border Collie Association). The weekend also offers a vendor village, handler demonstrations, winery access, free on-site parking. Bring a chair and dress for the weather. No pet dogs are allowed on the property.

Father’s Day weekend Train Rides
If a weekend historic train ride is just the ticket, Oregon Rail Heritage Center offers several timed excursions Saturday. Enjoy a 45-minute ride from downtown to Oaks Park and back along the Willamette River. Great activity for all ages.

The Everything Under the Sun Parade
Feeling burned out or isolated? This 2-year-old Sellwood neighborhood parade aims to gather community members for a fun day of outdoor activity and provide ways to connect with your neighbors. The Everything Under the Sun Parade is a people-powered celebration of radical joy and community connection. The route loops through the Sellwood neighborhood led by a giant papier-mâché sun puppet.

This ballet group’s 10th Anniversary performance features “Sleeping Beauty” as reimagined by co-directors Xuan Cheng and Ye Li, as well as the world premiere of a new contemporary ballet by choreographer Ye Li. The cast includes OIBA students, alumni, and special guests.

Terror Tunes at Hollywood Theater
Cult filmmaker and practical effects master Joe Castro visits the Hollywood Theater this weekend along with actress Brinke Stevens. It will be a night of toony terror with the chilling double feature of “Terror Toons” and “Personal Demons.” The film are followed by a Q&A with the artists.

Silverton Hills Strawberry Festival

MYS presents a commissioned piece by esperanza spalding for upright bass, voice, symphony, and jazz quintet; “Dispelling the Lie of Lies.” The piece was orchestrated in partnership with Puerto Rican jazz musician and composer Edmar Colón. Other works on the program include spalding’s “Ebony and Ivy,” and “Midnight in Carlotta’s Hair” by Wayne Shorter. MYS’ advanced jazz ensemble, Jazz-All Stars, will also perform.
