Suspect Shoots Police Officer in Shoulder After Car Wreck in Pottstown, Barricade Ends in Arrest

A Pottstown police officer was shot on Sunday while reacting to an automobile incident.

The gunshot occurred around 6 p.m., near Winding Road and Wilson Street.

Around 5:06 p.m., police were called to the intersection of Beech Street and N. Mt. Vernon Street for a two-car accident.

“At the scene, officers struggled with one of the vehicle’s occupants as he attempted to reach for a firearm inside the vehicle,” the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office said in a statement.

Authorities said the suspect escaped on foot to his residence on Winding Road. Once there, the suspect allegedly shot at officers, striking one in the shoulder.

The DA’s office reported that police returned fire but did not hit the suspect.

The cop was sent to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officials said the individual was besieged inside the house for several hours. According to the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, one suspect was captured shortly before 11 p.m., however, it is unclear whether this is the same person accused of shooting the officer.

The stressful minutes led surrounding residents to stay in place, however the order was later withdrawn.
