Teacher Kills 1 in Drunk Driving Incident, Flees to School to Avoid Being Late

One Kentucky teacher is in jail right now because she was charged with killing a man while driving drunk on her way to school earlier this month.

A press statement from the Lexington Police Department says that Jamie Caldwell has been charged with driving while drunk and leaving the scene of an accident.

The teacher, who is 29 years old, went to court for the first time on May 1. She said she wasn’t guilty and was released on bail.

The LPD said that Caldwell had to stay at home while police looked into what happened as part of her bail.

According to a statement from the LPD, police were sent to the scene of a hit-and-run on April 16 just before 7 a.m.

The announcement said that the man was taken to a nearby hospital for care after police found him with injuries that could have killed him.

A spokesperson for the Fayette County Coroner’s Office said the guy, whose name was Joshua Hampton and was 32 years old, died on April 18 from serious blunt force trauma injuries.

The LPD news release says that using the department’s real-time intelligence centre, officers then found the car in a parking lot at Glendover Elementary, where Caldwell is a teacher.

After that, Caldwell was taken to the Fayette County Detention Centre.

A statement from Fayette County Public Schools after her arrest said that the district would not say anything because the probe was still going on. The official said that Caldwell was put on administrative leave.

A grand jury will hear the case in the coming weeks.
