Texas Announces Tax-Free Weekend for Emergency Supplies April 26–28

Austin— The Texas Comptroller, Glenn Hegar, informed the people of Texas that during the state’s tax holiday, they will be allowed to purchase specific things for disaster preparation supplies without having to pay any taxes on them. This comes as the severe weather season is rapidly approaching.

In accordance with the press statement, the holiday will start at twelve minutes past midnight on April 26 and will continue until twelve minutes past midnight on April 28.

According to Hegar, “even though we are unable to know in advance when the next fire, flood, tornado, or hurricane may occur, we are able to ensure that our families, homes, and businesses have the supplies they require to deal with these and other types of emergencies.” Do not sit around and wait for calamity to strike. I would like to encourage people living in Texas to take advantage of this tax exemption in order to save money and prepare for any unexpected circumstances that may arise.

According to the office of the comptroller, it is estimated that consumers will save around $2.3 million in state and local sales taxes during the holiday season. 2015 marked the year that the Texas Legislature gave its initial approval to the holiday.

The following are examples of things that are eligible for purchase:

  • Batteries, fuel containers, and flashlights for the home that are priced at less than $75;
  • The cost of hurricane shutters and emergency ladders is less than $300.
  • There are portable generators available for less than three thousand dollars.

These are examples of purchases that do not qualify:

  • Batteries for automobiles, boats, and other types of motorised modes of transportation
  • Campfires and other camping equipment and supplies
  • The chainsaws
  • Wooden planks
  • Stepladders and extension ladders are similar.
  • The tents

According to the website of the Texas Comptroller, there is a comprehensive list of things that are eligible for the sales tax holiday.
