The Duo of Wheeler and Tshiebwe are Leading UK Early this Season

The duo of Sahvir Wheeler and Oscar Tshiebwe completely changed the direction of Kentucky basketball for the 2021-22 season.

Kentucky’s struggles last season that led to a 9-16 finish were in large part due to inconsistencies at the point guard and center positions. John Calipari upgraded both spots via the transfer portal.

Through three games, Wheeler has totaled 30 assists while only turning it over eight times. Seven of those turnovers came in the season opener vs. Duke where Calipari said he played too many minutes and wasn’t fresh down the stretch. Wheeler currently leads the nation in assists per game.

While Wheeler is leading the charge for the Wildcats, Tshiebwe has been a difference-maker on the glass. The UK junior currently leads the nation in rebounds per game with an average of 18.7.

Tshiebwe’s 56 rebounds through three games are the most by a Wildcat to start a career. Wheeler’s 30 assists are also a record to start a UK career.

Kentucky returns to action tonight vs. Ohio at Rupp Arena.
