Saddling up for the 2025 MLS All-Star Game is David Da Costais.
After an outstanding first season with the team, Da Costa received his first All-Star selection when the Portland Timbers announced on Wednesday that he was a coach’s pick for the game. On July 23, he will play against LIGA MX players at Q2 Stadium in Austin, Texas, as part of a 26-man lineup.
Portland manager Phil Neville is shown breaking the news to Da Costa in front of his teammates in a video that the Timbers shared on social media. Wearing a cowboy hat, Da Costa expressed his gratitude to the gathering and expressed his happiness.
Portland’s first-year designated player, Da Costa, has had an instant impact on the squad. He has scored two goals and provided a team-high eight assists in his first 18 games since being purchased from RC Lens for $6 million in February. By the halfway point of the season, those assists are tied for the second-most in the league.
Da Costa leads the club with 34 scoring opportunities, 18 successful crosses, and 1,519 minutes played, demonstrating his playmaking prowess.
With the selection, Da Costa, 24, joins players like Evander, Diego Valeri, and Diego Chara as the tenth Portland player to be named an All-Star in the team’s MLS history.
Twelve choices are chosen by fans, twelve are chosen by MLS All-Star Head Coach Nico Est ancia, and two are chosen by MLS Commissioner Don Garber to make the All-Star team. MLS Season Pass on Apple TV will allow you to view the match.
