The
Portland Trail Blazers
have announced the addition of three new assistant coaches, Quinton Crawford, Tiago Splitter and Patrick St. Andrews.
Also, an NBA source has told The Oregonian/OregonLive that assistant coach Mark Tyndale will not be retained to coach Chauncey Billups’ staff.
Splitter comes to Rip City after coaching the Paris Basketball Club to a French Basketball Cup championship and into the EuroLeague Playoffs last season.
In 2023-24, Splitter was an assistant coach with the Houston Rockets after serving in the same role with the Brooklyn Nets for five seasons, including his first as a developmental coach.
Splitter played seven seasons in the NBA, five with the San Antonio Spurs, who drafted him in the first round in 2007.
St. Andrews joins the Blazers’ staff after spending the last two seasons with the Memphis Grizzlies, following five seasons with the Milwaukee Bucks, winning a championship during the 2020-21 season.
Crawford comes to Portland after coaching the Stockton Kings to the 2024-25 G League championship.
He played at Arizona before starting his coaching career as a graduate manager and video coordinator for Pepperdine. That led to assistant video coordinator positions with the Sacramento Kings, Charlotte Hornets and the Orlando Magic.
Crawford joined the Los Angeles Lakers staff in 2019 as an assistant coach and earned an NBA championship in the 2020 Bubble. Following three seasons with the Lakers, Crawford coached with the Dallas Mavericks and Phoenix Suns before returning to Sacramento to coach its G League team.
The Blazers also hired Leron Black from the Rip City Remix to become a developmental coach with the Blazers. Last season, Black served as an assistant coach and director of video for the Remix.
In addition to Tyndale, the Blazers, who went 36-46 last season,
did not renew the contracts of assistant coaches
Roy Rogers, Chris Fleming and Ryan Gomes.
Following last season, the Blazers picked up the final year on Billups’ contract and signed him to a two-year contract extension .
