Trail Blazers land undrafted Caleb Love on two-way contract

On Thursday, the second day of the NBA draft, the Portland Trail Blazers did not have a second-round pick, but they did not go empty-handed.

According to an NBA source who spoke to The Oregonian/OregonLive, the Blazers are offering Arizona wing Caleb Love a two-way contract.

Shams Charania of ESPN broke the story first.

During his five-year career, the 6-foot-4 Love, who began working out for the Blazers on May 27, scored 2,762 points.

During his first three seasons at North Carolina, the former five-star prospect from St. Louis, Missouri, averaged 14.6 points per game.

For his final two seasons, Love moved to Arizona, where he averaged 17.6.

Love shot barely 38% from the field during his career, including 39.8% last season, which contributed to his lack of draft selection despite his prodigious scoring. In addition, he only made 32.6% of three-pointers, while he had a career-high 34% last season.

The Blazers had guards Sidy Cissoko, Bryce McGowens, and Justin Minaya on two-way contracts at the end of the season.

One will not be kept when Love is added. However, training camp could be extended to all four.

Love is regarded as an aggressive, attacking guard with the ability to finish above the hoop. He can make his own shot because of his speed and athleticism.

He is a competitive player who uses his 6-9 wingspan on defense.

His unpredictability and shot selection are his main flaws.

The Blazers selected center Yang Hansen from China on Wednesday by trading back from No. 11 in the first round of the draft with Memphis for the No. 16 choice.
