Transgender Woman Stabbed With Scissors in North Miami Beach; Suspect Charged With Hate Crime

According to authorities, a 32-year-old man is charged with hate crimes after stabbing a transgender lady at her residence in North Miami Beach.

On Wednesday, police arrested Joseph Lawrence White on three felony charges stemming from the February 10 incident.

According to authorities, the victim is dating the suspect’s brother and has known White for “several years,” with the two living together at one point. However, an arrest report claims that the couple “have never liked each other due to the victim’s sexual orientation.”

According to the complaint, White, his brother, and their mother had just moved to South Miami-Dade a few weeks before the event, but they returned to the 2100 block of Northeast 167th Street to acquire a speaker.

When they couldn’t find it, police said a verbal altercation broke out, with White calling the victim a “f—-t.”

“The victim replied back that (White) was the ‘f—-t,'” officers stated in the report.

According to authorities, White punched the victim in the face. According to the complaint, when she grabbed up a skillet to defend herself, White wrestled it away before stabbing her in the breast with a pair of scissors.

According to authorities, the woman used a broom to defend herself, and White then tossed a light at her.

According to police, as White fled, the victim attempted to pursue him but was too exhausted from blood loss to continue. She was eventually transported to the HCA Florida Aventura Hospital.

According to the complaint, Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested White on Thursday in an unrelated matter and brought him to the North Miami Beach police headquarters for interrogation.

Police said he refused to speak with detectives. They arrested him for attempted murder, aggravated assault with intent to commit a felony, and battery with prejudice.

According to jail records, he was being held without bond on Thursday at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Centre.
