Ugonna Onyenso Undergoes Surgery, John Calipari Provides Update

UK Athletics

Kentucky’s Ugonna Onyenso suffered a broken foot prior to Kentucky’s 4-0 performance at GLOBL JAM in Toronto.

The sophomore big man was in position to anchor the interior for the Wildcats before suffering the injury in a scrimmage last Tuesday.

John Calipari says Onyenso underwent a minor procedure and provided an update on a timeline to return.

“Ugonna Onyenso underwent a successful minor procedure that will keep him out for a couple of months,” Calipari wrote on social media. “Nobody hated missing last week’s games more than him, and I know he’s going to work his way back to once again have a positive impact on this team.”

In addition to Onyenso, Kentucky played without five-star freshman Aaron Bradshaw, who also had surgery on his foot earlier this summer. The expectation within the UK program is that Bradshaw will be ready to go when the season starts.

Ryan Lemond was the first to report the Onyenso news in a tweet on Monday.

Kyle Tucker confirmed that Onyenso did suffer a broken foot.
