Washington Trade Lawyer Analyzes Effects of New Auto Tariffs on U.S. Market

Les Glick is in the most recent audio interview on GlobalAutoIndustry.com called “Trump’s New Tariffs & Effects on the Automotive Industry: Key Insights from a Washington, DC-based Trade Lawyer” with Ron Hesse. Les owns a share in the Butzel law company in Michigan, which has an office in Washington, DC. The Butzel International Trade and Customs Specialty Team does not have anyone else in charge. Les used to co-chair the International Trade Committee of the American Bar Association’s International Law Section. He has also co-chaired the Mexico Committee and spoken at many ABA workshops. Many books have been written by Les about trade and Customs Law. The most current one is called “United States Mexico Trade Agreement (USMCA) – Legal and Business Implications” and was published by Kluwer Law International. Les has helped clients, many in the car industry, with trade and tariff issues involving goods coming into the US from other countries. Most recently, he has helped clients with issues related to China and the many tariffs that Presidents Trump and Biden have put on China.

Mr. Glick talks about these issues in the 25-minute Audio Interview:

  • Should Trump’s news of “tariff day” surprise us?
  • Could you quickly go over each of the new taxes and explain what they mean?
  • There have been a lot of comments about tariffs in the news from financial experts who aren’t trade lawyers like you, who have worked in this field for 40 years. What do you think?
  • How long do you think these taxes will last?
  • What do you think the taxes will mean for politics?
  • Do you think other countries will counter with their own tariffs?
  • What could be done to make the new taxes less bad?
