How does the 2025 Home Run Derby work? What is the new format?

In 2025, the first round will feature all eight contestants (listed above) participating in the event as they get equal time and opportunity to hit as many home runs as possible. There will be a bonus period that extends until the batter records three strikes. If the batter hits a home run over 425 feet in the bonus period, they will receive an extension until a fourth strike is recorded.

The top four players will go on to the semifinals and will be seeded in order based on how many home runs they hit in the first round. In this format, the No. 1 seed will face the No. 4 seed, and the No. 2 seed will face the No. 3 seed. The winners will advance to the final, where those sluggers will face off in a final round to decide who wins the $1,000,000 purse.
