A Woman has Offered Former UK Coach Billy Gillispie her Kidney

It was announced in December that former Kentucky basketball coach Billy Gillispie was in urgent need of a kidney transplant. Now, it appears he will get one in the near future. LEX18.com was the first to report the story.

Ericka Downey, the wife of Mark Downey, the head men’s basketball coach at Northeastern State, announced on her Twitter account that she is a match for Gillispie. Downey tweeted the following on Monday evening.

As you can see, Downey plans to go to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota on March 25th to make sure she is healthy enough to be a donor.

The 58-year old Gillispie coached at Kentucky from 2007-2009 and was fired after a disappointing final season in the NIT. Gillispie also coached at UTEP, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and is now currently coaching at Ranger College in Ranger, Texas.

I know his career at Kentucky didn’t go as planned but I’m sure the BBN wishes nothing but the best for Billy G.
