On Tuesday, a crash on the 134 Motorway set off a chaotic series of events in Eagle Rock when a homeowner was shot by police after shooting at a group of persons leaving the site of the incident and attempting to enter into her home.
The incident occurred around 3 p.m. on the eastbound lanes near the N. Figueroa Street ramps, according to the California Highway Patrol.
According to the CHP, three persons fled the scene of the incident and entered a neighborhood immediately off the motorway near Eagle Vista Drive. They requested assistance from the Los Angeles Police Department, who sent numerous squads of officers to the scene.
Police searching the area claimed they were led to a home in the 5300 block of Waldo Place, where one suspect was allegedly seen fleeing.
“As the officers were in the rear yard of that residence, they observed a female⦠in the yard of a neighboring residence armed with a handgun,” according to a press release from the LAPD.
Police identified the lady as 51-year-old Jillian Shriner, a true crime novelist. According to the Los Angeles Times, she lives with Scott Shriner, the longstanding bassist for LA-based rock band Weezer, whom she has been married to since 2005. The band will perform at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on Saturday at the Empire Polo Club in Indio.

Officers claim they told Shriner “numerous times” to drop the firearm, but she refused.
“Shriner then pointed the handgun at the officers, and an Officer-Involved Shooting occurred,” according to a police release.
She was shot in the shoulder and returned to her home. After the shooting, police said she informed them she was trying to defend her home from the culprits who were racing through the neighborhood.
Shriner and another woman were apprehended after leaving the house. Shriner was rushed to the hospital for treatment of his non-life-threatening injury, according to authorities.
She was arrested absentee on suspicion of attempted murder and is being jailed in lieu of $1 million, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department booking records.
Police claimed they found a 9mm handgun in the house. Investigators said they located a shell casing and have video footage of Shriner shooting at officers.
At roughly 4:20 p.m., one of the three suspects, who has only been identified as the driver of the automobile involved in the incident, was apprehended while wearing only his underwear, according to police. He was caught while allegedly claiming to be a resident of a nearby residence.
He is expected to be charged with felony hit and run after being released from the hospital for treatment of an unidentified injury.
Two suspects are still at large, and police have blocked off much of the neighbourhood as their search continues.
All eastbound lanes of SR-134 were temporarily closed for the enquiry, but have now reopened. The neighbourhood entrances were closed until early Wednesday morning as detectives continued their search for the two remaining suspects.
There were no officers hurt in the event.
The CHP has amended its earlier remarks about police shooting at the suspects, claiming that none of their personnel opened fire.
