Woman walking her dog hit, killed while crossing McMinnville street, police say

A woman walking her dog in McMinnville was hit by a truck on Saturday evening and killed, police said in a news release Sunday.

Audra Ackerman, 46, was walking her dog near Southwest Old Sheridan Road and Southwest Cypress Lane in McMinnville around 5:30, Saturday, police said in a news release. She was crossing the road when she was struck by a man driving a white Ford F-250 pulling a landscape trailer. Ackerman and her dog were both killed, police said.

The 68-year-old driver stayed at the scene of the crash and cooperated with investigators, police said. There is “no indication” that he was under the influence or speeding, the news release says.

Police wrote that the “investigation to date indicates this was a tragic accident.” They cautioned that drivers should be aware of increased pedestrian traffic as the summer approaches, and be aware that sun glare can make it hard to see pedestrians in the evening. Pedestrians should always take extra care when crossing streets, police wrote.
