Wrangler Driver Crashes at 102 MPH, Asks ‘Did I Kill Anyone?’ After Mom’s Death, Then Naps in Police Car

A 32-year-old woman from Wisconsin was arrested for reportedly causing a car accident that killed one woman and hurt three others. Police say she was going up to 102 mph in a 35 mph zone right before hitting the back of another car. Court records show that A’Jena Wynn-Howard was arrested on Saturday and is now being held on one count of first-degree reckless murder and two counts of first-degree recklessly endangering safety.

A criminal complaint shows that on Saturday, May 10, 2025, the Milwaukee Police Department reacted to 911 calls about a crash involving multiple vehicles in the 4300 block of N 76th Street. One caller told the dispatcher that three cars were involved in the crash and that “one of them was split in half.” Another caller said that someone had been “ejected from one of the vehicles.”

Police said that when they got to the scene of the accident, they saw a Chevrolet Traverse and a Jeep Patriot in the northbound lane of N 76th Street. The Patriot was hit by Wynn-Howard’s fast 2021 Jeep Wrangler. Officers said they found the body of an adult woman, later identified as Tonya Missouri-Smith, inside the Traverse. The vehicle had “severe damage to the rear and driver’s side,” they said. Her son was also in the car and was hurt, but not seriously enough to kill him.

Police said Wynn-Howard’s Jeep was “over 400 feet north” of the other two cars and had major damage to the front end.

According to the complaint, the investigation showed that the Defendant’s Jeep Wrangler crashed very quickly into the back of Tonya Missouri-Smith’s Chevrolet Traverse, killing her, and then pushed the Traverse into the back of the Defendant’s Jeep Patriot.

After the death, an autopsy showed that Missouri-Smith died from multiple blunt force injuries associated with a car accident. These injuries included cuts on her face, brain bleeding, a severed spinal cord, and fractures to all of her ribs, sternum, and pelvis. She also cut her lungs, liver, heart, aorta, and intestines.

Missouri-Smith’s son told the police that his mother was going west and was about to turn right when they were hit from behind.

The cops said Wynn-Howard opened the door and got into the back of a squad car without being asked.

The lawsuit says, “The Defendant sat in the back of the squad and seemed to be waiting for police. While she was waiting, she seemed to fall asleep in the back of the squad.”

When the officer saw what was going on and went up to Wynn-Howard’s car, he reportedly admitted that he was driving the Jeep Wrangler that caused the crash, saying, “That’s my car, I crashed.”

The complaint says, “Complainant again notes that the Defendant is the listed owner of the Jeep Wrangler, which is the car that caused the three-car accident.” “This statement fits with what the defendant said, which is that she was driving her car at the time of the accident.” The defendant then said, “Take me to jail.” I messed up that car. The defendant then asked, “Did I kill anyone?”

The last data point from Wynn-Howard’s car before the crash showed that she was “traveling 102 mph.” Five seconds before the crash, she was going 96 mph and “slowly increasing.” The speed limit sign said 35 mph.

Records show that Wynn-Howard is being held in the Milwaukee County Jail on a $40,000 cash-only bond right now.
