YAHTZEE! Jerquavion Mahone Commits to Kentucky

The Kentucky Wildcats picked up a commitment for a position they desperately need commitments for, which is along the defensive line. The Wildcats specifically need interior defensive linemen and they got that with the commitment of Jerquavion Mahone, who announced his commitment via his Twitter account Tuesday evening.

Mahone, a 6-4, 299lb target for the class of 2018, is a two-way player for Manchester High School in Manchester, Georgia. He visited Kentucky on December 8th and the Wildcats extended a scholarship offer this morning. Along with Kentucky, Mahone held offers from Tennessee and Jacksonville State.

Mahone came out of nowhere and schools quickly began to take notice. He played defensive end for Manchester High School but will play the defensive tackle position at Kentucky. In addition to playing defense, he also has the ability to play on the offensive line.

If Kentucky remains in the 3-4 defense, he has the skillset to play on the edge but Stoops’ is believed to be switching back to the 4-3 front that he ran during his first two seasons in Lexington. That would slide Mahone to the interior of the defensive line.

In addition to being a football star, the UK commit also played basketball. Playing basketball helped his lateral movement on the offensive and defensive line. As a defensive end, he was named All-Region after totaling 72 tackles, 13 sacks and 30 tackles for loss. Mahone was also named All-Region as an offensive lineman.

The UK season didn’t go as planned, leading some fans to think the Wildcats are losing momentum. However, the recent success on the recruiting trail is a breath of fresh air and a shot in the arm for the fan base.
