According to the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, a 24-year-old Happy Valley lady lost her life in a single-vehicle collision early on Wednesday morning, but her two small children were unharmed.
Shortly before one in the morning, deputies were called to a crash scene in unincorporated Clackamas County, close to the intersection of Southeast 97th Avenue and Park Mountain Lane. The 2021 Jeep Compass came to rest upside down after plummeting down an embankment into a forested area.
Authorities found that a witness had already pulled a 4-year-old child out of the Jeep and that another child was still locked inside when they got to the site. A 1-year-old was pulled from the overturned Jeep by deputies and Clackamas Fire personnel as they down the hill.
Mattie Lee Kelley, the driver, was discovered dead within the Jeep. The Oregon Department of Human Services was informed of the occurrence, and both children were transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The team of forensic technicians and criminal reconstruction from the sheriff’s office arrived to look into the collision. Investigators believe impairment may have played a role, based on preliminary findings.
