An automobile crash in San Joaquin County killed three individuals and injured two more on Sunday afternoon.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a Ford Fiesta carrying five persons was going eastbound on Highway 12 at 3:40 p.m. when the driver lost control at the Highway 88 split. Police assume the driver was intoxicated.
When the Toyota Tacoma broadsided the fiesta, no one was wearing a seatbelt. The CHP reported that three persons were killed in the Fiesta: a 25-year-old lady driving, a 25-year-old guy riding in the passenger seat, and another 25-year-old man in the back passenger seat. They were all pronounced dead on the scene.
According to the CHP, the two additional fiesta passengers were brought to a local hospital. It is not obvious what condition they are in. The driver of the Tacoma, a 55-year-old man, suffered minor injuries.
Highways 12 and 88 were stopped in both directions for several hours. The roadways reopened at 7:20 p.m.
