Middle Tennessee Emergency Workers Are Getting Ready for More Snow

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Tenn. — Heavy rain and flooding over the weekend have caused crews to start getting ready for cold weather and snow. Parts of Middle Tennessee are under a Winter Storm Warning from the National Weather Service.

Montgomery County, along with the rest of Middle Tennessee, is getting ready for more cold weather. This is especially true in one of the areas that was hit hard by recent flooding.

The head of the disaster management agency for Montgomery County, Ed Baggett, said, “We’ll have crews back out tomorrow trying to finish the assessment and beat the snow coming in.”

On Monday, the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) sent out workers to check on the weather because it was causing damage to homes and roads.

Baggett said, “There’s still a little high water.” “We have homes that we can’t get to.” The water is still so deep that we can’t get to them—some of it is 4.5 to 6 feet deep. “You really can’t get inside the house to see what kind of damage we’ve done to it.”

As cold weather and snow are expected to move in, the same problems could get worse. On Monday morning, the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) had workers on the roads putting down brine.

A Winter Storm Warning has been sent out because winds will make it harder to see.

Baggett said, “We want everyone to be very careful. If you don’t have to go somewhere, please stay home.” “Be careful.”

Fire and emergency teams are telling people to get their homes ready for winter by:

Insulate Pipes: To keep pipes from freezing, wrap them in foam insulation that is visible. When it’s very cold outside, let taps drip to keep water moving.

Roof and Gutters: Clean out the gutters and look over the roof for any shingles that are missing or coming loose. When snow piles up, it can damage buildings or cause leaks.

Window and door seals: Look for drafts. To keep heat inside, put up weather stripping and think about heated curtains or window film.

Heating System: Make sure your heating system is working well by having it inspected and repaired.
