Dallas police are looking for the person who drove the car that hit and killed a 6-year-old girl on Sunday night.
Around 10:25 p.m. Sunday, police were called to the 5900 block of Belt Line Road for a hit-and-run.
A young girl was seen running from an apartment building into oncoming traffic. She did this while dodging cars, which made some drivers slow down.
Police say that the driver of a white, later model Acura MDX was going west on Belt Line Road when they hit the girl in the street.
Police said the suspect pulled into a nearby parking lot, left the scene, and didn’t help the girl. After that, the Acura was seen driving west on Belt Line Road.
Dallas Fire-Rescue also came to the scene and took the girl to a nearby hospital, where police say she died.
According to Lt. Tramese Jones of the Dallas Police Department, this is very sad. “Hearing about this tragedy gives me chills, and I have a 6-year-old.” It’s terrible to think that a child was hit by a car and didn’t get help right away.
On Thursday, a witness went back to the spot and left a bouquet for the child.
“I said, ‘No, turn around.'” One person who was there on Monday said, “I think that was a baby.” “That’s why we turned around and pulled up…”As soon as I got out of the car, I called 911.
Dallas police haven’t said if they have any tips on a suspect, but they want anyone who knows anything to come forward.
People are being asked to help us find out if they saw what happened, if they know whose car it was, if they know who was in it, or anything else. Jones told them, “Call 911.”
If anyone knows anything that could help them identify the car and its owner, they should email Det. K. Land at kyle.land@dallaspolice.gov or call (214) 671-0014.
