Fact Check Policy

Our fact-checking process is designed to protect readers from misinformation and to improve the accuracy of our reporting on Local News, Politics, Crime News, and Weather News. We apply this process to original reporting, updates, and aggregated stories.

Claims Selection: We prioritize claims that are timely, widely shared, and likely to influence public understanding or behavior. Priority is given to statements by public officials, law enforcement, campaigns, and widely circulated social posts.

Verification Methods: Reporters seek primary sources, including official records, court filings, budget documents, filings with public agencies, and direct statements from qualified spokespersons. We corroborate with multiple independent sources when possible and use data analysis for quantitative claims.

Ratings & Labels: When publishing stand-alone fact checks, we use clear labels such as True, Mostly True, Mixed, Missing Context, Unproven, or False. For regular news articles, we integrate verification findings into the story, with context and links to sources.

Corrections & Updates: If new evidence changes our assessment, we update the rating and add a clearly dated editor’s note describing what changed. We maintain an archive of fact-checks with version history when feasible.
