Denzil Ware Named SEC Co-Defensive Lineman of the Week

Kentucky junior defensive end Denzil Ware has been named the SEC Co-Defensive Lineman of the Week, the league announced on Monday afternoon. This marks the second time this season and third career weekly honor for Ware.

 

The 6-2, 245lb defensive end was all over the field during the Wildcats 44-21 victory vs. Vanderbilt on Saturday. Ware recorded three tackles, including two quarterback sacks, which tied a career high. In addition, Ware also recorded his first career interception by hauling in a ball that was tipped by teammate Adrian Middleton. The interception was one of four the Wildcats totaled on Saturday.

 

For the season, Ware has totaled 38 tackles. Among those are 6.5 sacks and 9.0 tackles for loss. The junior has a pass break up, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries, one of which he returned for a 20-yard touchdown vs. Southern Miss. He was also named SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week after his week one performance at Southern Miss.

 

For his career, Ware has registered 147 tackles, 26.5 tackles for loss, 13.0 sacks, three forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.
