Playing Through Tre Mitchell was Kentucky’s Tweak vs. New Mexico State

Tre Mitchell was the halftime tweak John Calipari used to get Kentucky rolling in an 86-46 win vs. New Mexico State earlier this week at Rupp Arena.

Mitchell told reporters Thursday that playing through him in the second half was the adjustment Kentucky made.

“Were you watching the game? Did you know what adjustment I made at halftime?” Calipari asked after Monday’s victory. “I love this because you guys have no idea, yet you will tell me how to coach and what I should be doing and all of that stuff. So what adjustment did I make in the second half? I love this. I am not going to tell you. It was a tweak.”

“Definitely made the adjustment,” Mitchell said Thursday. “He was just like ‘Let’s go through Tre a little bit. Let him make the decision and pull that big guy out and let him make multiple decisions in a possession and see how it goes from there.’ Obviously, it worked out pretty well.”

After not recording an assist in the first half vs. New Mexico State, Mitchell totaled five in the second half of the win, along with 6 points and five rebounds.

The UK forward scored or assisted on 18 of Kentucky’s second-half points, including 12 of the first 13 in the half to help the Wildcats pull away.

Mitchell and the Wildcats return to action Friday night at Rupp Arena vs. Texas A&M Commerce.
