Mark Stoops Releases Statement on Staying at Kentucky

Mark Stoops
UK Athletics

Mark Stoops will be the head coach of the Kentucky Wildcats next season, bringing an end to one of the wildest 24 hours in Kentucky football history.

Stoops and the Wildcats defeated No. 10 Louisville 38-31 Saturday afternoon but the talk of the day centered around Stoops’ future at Kentucky and interest in the head coaching vacancy in College Station.

Reports surfaced late Saturday night that Stoops would be the next head coach at Texas A&M, replacing Jimbo Fisher, who was let go earlier this month.

But in the end, Stoops is remaining in Lexington. The UK coach released a statement on social media Sunday.

“I know there’s been much speculation about me and my job situation the last couple of days,” Stoops wrote on social media. “It’s true I was contacted about a potential opportunity this weekend, but after celebrating a big win against our rivals with players I love like family, I knew in my heart I couldn’t leave the University of Kentucky right now. I have a great job at a place I love, and I get to work with the best administration and greatest fan base in college football right where I’m at. I’m excited to say I’m a Wildcat!”
