The Kentucky Wildcats opened the 2022 season with a 37-13 victory vs. Miami (Ohio) at Kroger Field Saturday night.

The win was the 60th of Mark Stoops’ career at Kentucky, tying Paul “Bear” Bryant for the most wins in school history.

The Wildcats featured a lot of new faces on both sides of the ball but the story of the night was transfer wide receiver, Tayvion Robinson.

The former Virginia Tech wideout had a career night, hauling in a career-best 6 catches for a career-high 136 yards, including 103 of those coming after the catch.

The senior wide receiver also set a UK record for the most receiving yards by a UK player in their debut, breaking Wan’Dale Robinson’s record of 125 yards last season vs. Louisiana Monroe.

“Tayvion did not surprise me, because I’ve seen it,” Mark Stoops said postgame Saturday night. “In particular, I’ve seen his game elevate in scrimmages. Not that he doesn’t practice hard or perform well in practice, there’s just so many guys and so many moving pieces.

“You know, when we — in scrimmages, he’s really shown out. And, you know, I was talking to Wan’dale before the game, and I told him I felt like Tayvion was going to have a really good day, as well.

“And so, you know, sure enough, he made a big play right on the first play of the game. Kind of gets him going. But the nice thing about him is he’s experienced. He’s a good football player. He has a good feel for it. He’s talented. He works hard. You know, so he’s a really good addition.”

It didn’t take Robinson long to establish a connection with senior quarterback Will Levis. Not only was the receiving total a career-high, but it was also the first career 100-yard receiving game for Robinson.
